Important notice. This application is an independent, third-party guide and reference tool. It is NOT sponsored by, authorised by, endorsed by, certified by or affiliated with Apple Inc. in any way. “Siri”, “Shortcuts”, “iOS”, “iPhone”, “iPad”, “Mac” and “App Store” are trademarks of Apple Inc., used here for descriptive and referential purposes only.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how PHP SOFTWARE COMPANY LIMITED (“we”, “us”, “our”, the “Publisher”) collects, uses, discloses and protects information when you download, install or use the mobile application Ask app for use with Siri (the “App”), including any related websites, support pages and services we operate (together, the “Services”).

The App is a voice-command guide and reference library. It lists more than 1,000 example commands and thousands of shortcut ideas collected for use with Apple’s Siri and Shortcuts features, includes a text translation helper, and includes an AI chat assistant. The App does not control Siri, does not connect to your Apple Account, and does not read the contents of your device.

By downloading or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the App and delete it from your device.

2. Summary at a glance

  • We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, postal address or phone number.
  • Your favourites, saved items, settings and history stay on your device. We do not upload them to our servers.
  • We use third-party services for advertising, analytics, translation and the AI chat assistant. These services receive limited data as described in Section 4 and Section 6.
  • On iOS 14.5 and later, personalised advertising identifiers are used only if you grant permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt.
  • Purchases (for example, “Remove ads”) are processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment card details.
  • You can stop all collection at any time by deleting the App.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Information you provide directly

  • Text you type into the translation tool. The text you enter to be converted into a phrase Siri can read.
  • Prompts and messages you send to the AI chat assistant. The questions or instructions you type into the chat feature.
  • Support correspondence. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message (for example a description of a bug, your device model or your iOS version).
  • Optional feedback and ratings you choose to submit.

Please do not include passwords, financial account numbers, government identification numbers, health information or other sensitive personal data in translation text, chat prompts or support emails. We do not need it and ask you not to send it.

3.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device and technical data: device model, operating system version, screen characteristics, language and region settings, App version, time zone, and coarse network information.
  • Identifiers: the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) where you have permitted tracking, the Identifier for Vendors (IDFV), and randomly generated app-instance or installation identifiers used by our analytics and advertising partners.
  • Usage data: which screens you open, which categories or commands you view, which features you use, session length and frequency, crashes, errors and performance measurements.
  • Advertising data: which ads were requested, shown, clicked or dismissed, and information used to limit repeat ads and detect invalid traffic.
  • Approximate location derived from IP address (typically country or region level). The App does not request access to your device’s precise GPS location.

3.3 Information stored only on your device

The following remain in the App’s local storage on your device and are not transmitted to us: your favourites and bookmarked commands, recent searches, in-app preferences and settings, local chat history where the feature retains it, and downloaded content packs. Deleting the App deletes this data. If you use iCloud device backup, a copy may exist in your own iCloud backup under your control and under Apple’s privacy policy.

3.4 Information we do not collect

  • We do not access your contacts, photos, calendar, reminders, health data or files.
  • We do not record audio, and the App does not listen through your microphone.
  • We do not read, intercept or receive anything you say to Siri, nor any response Siri gives you. Your interactions with Siri are between you and Apple.
  • We do not collect your Apple Account credentials or any payment card data.

5. Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK and similar jurisdictions)

  • Performance of a contract – to deliver the App’s core features you request, including translation and AI chat responses.
  • Consent – for personalised advertising, tracking across apps and websites, and any non-essential analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time (Section 8).
  • Legitimate interests – to keep the App secure and functioning, prevent fraud and abuse, understand aggregate usage and improve our product, in a way that is proportionate and does not override your rights.
  • Legal obligation – to meet accounting, tax, consumer-protection and law-enforcement requirements.

6. Third parties and disclosure

We do not disclose your information except as described below.

6.1 Service providers and partners

  • Apple Inc. – App Store distribution, in-app purchase processing and receipt validation, crash reporting where you have opted to share it with developers. See apple.com/legal/privacy.
  • Advertising networks and mediation partners (for example Google AdMob and the ad networks it mediates) – to request, display and measure ads. See Google’s policy on how it uses data from partner apps.
  • Analytics and crash-reporting providers (for example Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics) – to produce aggregated usage statistics and stability reports.
  • Translation providers – the text you submit for translation is transmitted to a machine-translation service in order to return a result.
  • AI model providers – prompts you send to the AI chat assistant are transmitted to a third-party AI provider that generates the response. We instruct our providers not to use your prompts to train their public models where such an option is offered, but we cannot guarantee the internal practices of any third party.
  • Cloud hosting and content delivery providers – to serve app content and updates.

These parties act as independent controllers or as our processors depending on the service, are permitted to use the data only for the purposes described, and are governed by their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

6.2 Legal and protective disclosure

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, court order or lawful government request; to enforce our Terms of Use; to detect, prevent or address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us.

6.3 Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the recipient to honour this Privacy Policy or give you notice and a choice before your information becomes subject to a materially different policy.

7. Advertising and App Tracking Transparency

The App is offered free of charge and is funded by advertising. Ads may be shown as banners, interstitials or rewarded placements.

  • On iOS 14.5 and later, before any tracking identifier is used for cross-app or cross-site advertising, iOS presents Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, we and our partners do not access the IDFA for that purpose, and ads shown to you will be contextual (non-personalised) rather than based on a cross-app profile.
  • You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or limit ad personalisation globally in Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.
  • Non-personalised ads still require basic technical data (such as coarse location, device type and language) to be delivered, measured and protected against fraud.
  • Purchasing the Remove ads in-app purchase disables advertising placements in the App. It does not affect data processed for core functionality, analytics or crash reporting.

8. Your choices and rights

8.1 Controls available to everyone

  • Tracking permission: allow or deny at the ATT prompt, and change it later in iOS Settings.
  • Notifications: disable in Settings → Notifications if you have enabled them.
  • Remove ads: purchase the ad-removal option in the App.
  • Delete local data: clear favourites and history from within the App where such an option is provided, or delete the App to remove all locally stored data.
  • Stop all collection: uninstall the App.

8.2 Rights under GDPR / UK GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to request access to your personal data; rectification of inaccurate data; erasure; restriction of processing; portability; and to object to processing based on legitimate interests or to direct marketing. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

8.3 Rights under United States state privacy laws

If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas or another state with comparable legislation, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used and disclosed; to request deletion or correction; to obtain a portable copy; to opt out of “sale”, “sharing” or targeted advertising and of profiling with legal effects; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out of targeted advertising, decline the ATT prompt and/or email us using the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”.

8.4 Other jurisdictions

Residents of Vietnam (Decree 13/2023/ND-CP on Personal Data Protection), Brazil (LGPD), Canada (PIPEDA) and other jurisdictions have comparable rights. We apply the protections in this Policy to all users regardless of location.

8.5 How to exercise your rights

Email us at the address in Section 14 with the request and the device you used. Because the App has no user accounts, we may ask for information (such as your advertising identifier, purchase receipt or the email address you contacted us from) to verify the request and locate any relevant records. We respond within the period required by applicable law, generally within 30 days. There is no charge unless the request is manifestly unfounded or excessive. You may use an authorised agent where the law permits.

9. Data retention

  • Locally stored data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the App.
  • Translation text and AI chat prompts are processed to return a result and retained by our providers only for the limited period needed for delivery, abuse prevention and legal compliance, typically no more than 30 days unless a longer period is legally required.
  • Analytics and crash data are retained in identifiable form for up to 14 months and thereafter in aggregated or anonymised form.
  • Advertising data is retained by advertising partners under their own schedules.
  • Support correspondence is retained for up to 24 months after the matter is resolved.
  • Purchase and tax records are retained for the period required by accounting and tax law.

10. International data transfers

We are based in Vietnam and our service providers operate globally. Your information may therefore be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and the European Union, whose data-protection laws may differ from those of your country. Where required, transfers out of the EEA or the UK are made under the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or another lawful transfer mechanism, together with appropriate supplementary safeguards.

11. Security

We use reasonable and appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), minimisation of the data we collect, access controls on our systems and reliance on established platform providers. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your device and your Apple Account secure.

12. Children’s privacy

The App is rated for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher minimum age applicable in your country, such as 16 in parts of the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly. Parents should note that the App contains third-party advertising and an AI chat feature, and should supervise use accordingly.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, our practices, or legal requirements. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and will take effect when posted. For material changes we will provide additional notice where required, such as an in-app notice or a renewed consent prompt. Your continued use of the App after the revised Policy takes effect constitutes acceptance of it. Please review this page periodically.
